August 4, 2025, 7amleh - The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media has published a new educational guide titled "Digital Security Teaching Guide for Youth" aimed at raising digital awareness among Arabic-speaking youth aged 10 to 15. The guide provides essential knowledge and skills for safe and responsible engagement in an increasingly complex digital environment, using simplified language and interactive educational tools tailored to their needs.
This publication comes amid rising digital threats to the privacy and security of Palestinian youth, especially as their presence in the digital space increases and Arabic-language educational programs on digital security remain scarce. The guide is grounded in key questions about how the internet works, how data is transmitted, what digital privacy means, and how to protect devices and personal accounts. It presents these technical concepts in a simplified, educational format that helps build foundational awareness of the digital systems young people engage with daily.
The guide adopts an interactive methodology based on hands-on activities and classroom discussions, enabling educators and school counselors to incorporate digital security concepts into their teaching practices in a participatory manner. This approach encourages students to apply their acquired skills in awareness campaigns within their school environment.
The guide highlights that online privacy is increasingly at risk due to tracking systems, phishing scams, and the commercial practices of social media platforms. It calls for the development of advanced protection tools and systematic digital education from an early age. The guide also explores common risks such as cyberbullying, suspicious links, and data breaches, and offers practical solutions including the use of strong passwords, privacy settings adjustments, and adoption of more secure open-source alternatives.
In this context, Mahdi Kurzom, Project Coordinator at 7amleh, stated: "Every day we witness the wide gap in Arabic educational content addressing youth digital security. This guide was designed as a dynamic, interactive tool to place knowledge in the hands of youth and educators. Our goal is to move from merely warning about risks to empowering a conscious generation capable of understanding and engaging with technology confidently."
This guide is part of 7amleh’s ongoing work for over a decade to strengthen the digital resilience of Palestinian society. 7amleh has led awareness campaigns and provided specialized digital security trainings targeting parents, children, teachers, journalists, digital rights activists, and civil society organizations. It has also developed educational and technical platforms such as the Digital Security Helpdesk for rapid response to digital incidents, and the 7or platform that monitors and documents digital rights violations against Palestinian users.
7amleh emphasizes that digital education is a vital component in safeguarding youth rights in the digital space, and that developing Arabic-language educational curricula is an urgent necessity, particularly in contexts lacking local content and facing challenges in accessing digital knowledge.
